In the midst of planning a kitchen project, it came to me - as it does on every scheme - that the devil really is in the detail. This is what sets a standard project apart from a brilliant project, the tiny touches which make you look twice, especially those which elevate ordinary and functional items into things of beauty in their own right. Handles which transform standard cupboards into really smart doors, sockets which are not only non-ugly but actually really stylish, colourful light flex etc.

So, on this theme, check out a few examples which will add the perfect finishing touches to any given room or project.....

So, here we are in the New Year. It can feel a real anti-climax after all the hype and excitement of December and the festive season. Generally, people are staying in, saving money, the weather is cold and Spring still feels a long way off. However, January is a great time for fresh starts, new ideas and looking ahead which makes it the perfect time to plan new projects.

Colour is a real mood-lifter and now is a good time to shake off the moody greys and darker colours of Winter and think about lighter, brighter shades to make you smile when you come through the door at the end of the day.

In line with this, Pantone have announced their colour of the year as 'Greenery'. You can't get much more cheerful than this zesty yellow-green and there are stacks of ideas on how to use it over on The LuxPad - including our tip.

nest has a shiny new office and it is just lovely. At the top of the house, it is bright, sunny and quiet with big windows and a great view. We have lost count of the number of clients who hanker after ‘just one more room/ for a playroom, den, office etc. A loft conversion can be a perfect way to enable this.

No outside space is lost, planning permission is often not required and you will undoubtedly add value to your home, just a few of the reasons why conversions are so appealing. A picture of our new room is below and, if you are thinking of embarking on such a project, we can happily work alongside your architect and builder to ensure that the room works with the rest of your home and for its intended purpose.

nest team up with Mums & Dads Magazine each quarter to write an interiors article for them, always family-friendly as this is their reader market and with the aim of being both inspiring and practical. A recent article centred around the dreaded ‘homework’. Whilst we sadly can’t magic up more hours in the day, we can offer design ideas on how to create a great kid’s study space. hygge is the word of the moment this winter, loosely translated as ‘cosiness’ and derived from the Norwegian word for wellbeing. Direct Stoves have written a recent article on applying this concept to your home and we are delighted they have chosen to use on of our client images in their feature. It shows how Scandi-style interiors not only look great but also offer you the perfect set-up in which to curl up in front of a log burner, pile on the cushions & throws and shut out the cold evenings.

nest were delighted to take part in The LuxPad's article on Pantone's colour of the year, Marsala. This rich, earthy colour might not intially appeal to all but their tips from interior designers around the world, including ourselves, give great ideas on how you can incorporate it into your home, large or small-scale:

Pantone Colour of the Year - Marsala

‘A rich and earthy colour, Marsala looks at home in a Moorish scheme with turquoise and gold. However, I prefer it as an accent textile colour – either a chair or sofa for impact or cushions for a subtle approach - with muted greys and neutrals and would pair it with natural wood along with metallic touches of copper and brass.’
